All the latest from the Flower Bank

We spent an unglamorous morning clearing the banking of weeds. Heavy rain had made the banking a quagmire but we were satisfied with our progress at the end of our session.

On Thursday evening I delivered my first funeral pillow, thank you Trish for being my first customer.

Tomorrow we make a start at clearing the back garden at Pulford Road in preparation for us creating raised beds for a cutting flower garden in N15.

Thought I’d have a go at making my own Matzah vase

On Saturday 24 March the Crafty Bride had her first outing to Lordship Rec’s International Women’s Day event. I showed 10 women how to make buttonholes and everyone was delighted with them.

Thank you Colleen for this fantastic donation of Philodendron orchids. I’m looking forward to using them in this week’s designs.

This gorgeous wreath was prepared by one of our young offenders to lay at a Holocaust Memorial event in Haringey on Sunday 28 January.

I was asked by Community Barnet to talk about The Flower Bank at their AGM on Tuesday 5 December. I made this arrangement to show people what can be done with rescued flowers.

The Flower Bank was delighted to be part of Haringey’s Expo on Friday 24 November. The Expo was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we do and to meet other amazing organizations. The Flower Bank is thrilled to be part of Haringey’s wonderful voluntary sector.

According to the Royal London National Funeral Cost Index Report in 2017 the average cost of a funeral with a traditional burial is £4,257 and the average cost of a cremation is £3,311. Funeral prices are very high and so too are the costs of funeral flowers. The Flower Bank’s wreaths are a response to spiralling prices and hope to give some small comfort to relatives at a time of great loss and sadness.

Launching soon will be The Flower Bank's affordable wreath service. Using unwanted flowers we'll create beautiful wreaths without compromising on their quality. The Flower Bank's style is rustic and natural and responds well to the unpredictable choice of flowers and foliage that are collected from the supermarkets. Get in touch and ask for more details.

Please see The Flower Bank’s second order for a funeral wreath, created using end of code Gerberas, dianthus, roses, eucalyptus, pittosporum and gypsophila. Contact me about creating a wreath and further information on our service.

I’m delighted to announce that The Flower Bank has been nominated for a Community Impact Award and the award ceremony is part of Haringey’s Community Expo next Friday. The expo is at Tottenham Town Hall and starts at 11. Come down and you can see me making arrangements.

From Saturday 25 November to Friday 1 December the Flower Bank will be part of the Community Barnet shop at Brent Cross. Please pop down during that week to see us and you’ll be able to buy my wreaths and take part in activities I’m organising.

Yesterday I was thrilled to complete my first funeral wreath for a grave at Highgate Cemetery.
