A Celebrity Visitor

Yesterday after days of feverish tidying, numerous trips to the tip, the creation by the marvellous Mary of a jungle wall I welcomed Jeff Brazier to The Flower Bank. Jeff paid us a flying visit en route to The Hive where he was commentating on Saturday’s Barnet v Solihull football game. He came to collect in person the latest batch of daffodils and tulips for his walking group which we’ve been supporting and I blushed for the entire duration of his visit. Jeff has turned his back a tiny bit on TV presenting in recent years and studied to become a counsellor. His response to the social isolation that COVID brought has been to set up a walking group in Harlow that enables people to get together and chat over an activity and the bunches of flowers are a going home present. He told me that one of the ladies at a Mother’s Day walk he’d organised had cried when she’d been given the daffs and said that they were her long dead mother’s favourites. Another person he told me, came to the group after 18 months of isolation. Jeff is particularly passionate about creating community hubs from cafes in soulless new build developments and he’s brimming with enthusiasm and ideas on how we can work together in the future. It’s Easter/Passover next weekend and I’ll be closed for 4 days.

Have a great week. Ursula
